Black Turmeric (Curcuma caesia) is a rare relative of common turmeric with a distinct bluish-black rhizome and a camphor-like aroma. Unlike yellow turmeric, its essential oils are rich in compounds like camphor, ar-turmerone, and other bioactives that give it potent antioxidant and antimicrobial properties shown in lab studies. Research also supports traditional uses for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anticancer activity in preclinical models, and it contains a blend of curcuminoids and volatile oils that differ from regular turmeric’s curcumin profile.
